Walsall winger Alex Nicholls hopes that he has done enough to earn a starting berth for Saturday's FA Cup first round fixture against his home-town club Stourbridge.
Nicholls came off the bench to score the winning goal in the Saddlers' 3-2 victory against Wycombe last weekend and believes he stands a chance of having impressed boss Chris Hutchings enough to gain a place in the starting XI.
The local-born player told the Express and Star: "It's a big one for me being my home town. Starting is not down to me but I feel I have done as much as I can. Coming on and scoring the winner is good and I'm desperate to play.
"I'm just trying to keep plugging away, and it's all about staying positive. I've always had belief in myself that I can do well and score goals, it's just doing it consistently."
