Reina targeting new contract

Tue, 03 Nov 13:20:23 2009

Liverpool have been boosted by the news that goalkeeper Jose Reina is intent on signing a new contract at Anfield.

The Reds are struggling in the Premier League after Saturday's defeat at Fulham and face a Champions League exit if they lose in Lyon on Wednesday. Manager Rafael Benitez's future is on the line but one bright spot is fellow Spaniard Reina's willingness to sign a new deal.

Talks on a new deal are expected to open soon and Reina added: "My aim is to get a new contract in the future and I want to be here for many years. Apparently the club wants the same."

He added: "It's already my fifth season here and that says it all, really. One of my daughters is a Scouser.

"I have some friends here and my wife and kids are happy. I have every reason to stay longer and of course I will."

Reina is clearly behind Benitez as Liverpool strive to turn around an increasingly desperate season.

He said: "Titles are what we are all here for. As a Liverpool player you have to have these ambitions.

"Trophies are the most important thing and the most important one is probably the Premier League.

"Rafa is building something special here. He proved that when he came here; the club was one thing and now it's something totally different.

"We have grown up and we can still grow up a little bit more."

Why would anyone want to tell the world that their daughter is a Scouser, has the man no shame? If Reina wants to win trophy's then he's clearly at the wrong club. - "It's already my fifth season here and that says it all, really" - all it says is you won sod all! Yak! yak! yak!

  6. Reina says "titles is what were here for" Then why the heck did Benitez take off key players against Fulum when we needed a win???

Reina needs to look at Benitez's tactical changes to see he is not prioritising the league and this is disrespectfull to the club and fans.

As a liverpool legend has recently stated Benitez days are numbered and I totally agree. The best thing to happen to L.F.C is to loose to Lyon and a change of manager with intentions to win the premiership over the C.League will finally happen as Benitez is a joke and I once as a supporter liked his style, but no more.
