Trembling eyes top-flight Nottingham derby

Notts County executive chairman Peter Trembling dreams of a Nottingham derby in the Premier League.

The football scene in the city has promise with Nottingham Forest looking like they could challenge for promotion in the Championship this season and County expecting to do likewise in League Two.

Following the takeover by Munto Finance, the Magpies aim to be in the Premier League within five years.

The two Nottingham clubs have not contested a top-flight fixture since 1992 and Trembling believes it would be good for the city if both teams could return to the top division.

"Forest should be in the top flight but Notts should be in the top flight with them. Why not have two big, famous clubs playing in the top flight together? That would be fantastic," said Trembling in an interview in the Nottingham Post. "I think that is what would be best for this football club. If you have one club doing well and another on the way down, it doesn't work as well. You want the two clubs to be competing.

"It would be good for the city if Notts County and Forest go up this season. For the city it would be fantastic and for East Midlands football as well."
