Francis calling for cup caution

Mon 03 Dec, 08:30 PM

Simon Francis has stressed the importance of not getting "carried away" despite Southend seemingly being handed a comfortable FA Cup draw.Steve Tilson's side face a second round replay against Oxford and whoever progresses will entertain Dagenham in round three.

Defender Francis is confident United can beat the U's and embark on a potentially money-spinning run in the competition.

"At home in the replay with the fans behind us I think we could win by a few goals and that would set up a bit of a derby against Dagenham," Francis told the Southend Echo.

"I'm sure there would be another good crowd for that one and we would be favourites to go on and reach the fourth round, where hopefully we could be drawn against one of the Premier League sides.

"That's certainly what we're hoping for, but we can't afford to get too carried away."
