United lost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the season started following his failure to recover from a series of long-term injuries, Louis Saha is suffering his own fitness problems and the likes of Paul Scholes, Park Ji-Sung, Mikael Silvestre, Gary Neville and more recently Wayne Rooney have been out with long-term woes, not to mention short-term injuries to Owen Hargreaves, Michael Carrick, Edwin van der Sar and Darren Fletcher.
But, despite incessant speculation linking United with Nicolas Anelka and Dimitar Berbatov, Ferguson feels he will not get value for money or the best out of his signings if people arrive mid-season.
"I think the squad is good enough," he declared. "We do not always get great joy in January. It takes time for players to settle in.
"Look at what happened with Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic."
Evra and Vidic arrived mid-season in 2006 but took until the start of the following campaign to truly establish themselves as top defenders in the Premier League.
The two men took time to settle in when they were signed during the January transfer window in 2006, but have since become established as first choices.
One area where Ferguson may look to strengthen, however, is Evra's position as the only other specialist left back in the squad, Silvestre, is out for most of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.
"Maybe we are short of cover in that area now Gabriel Heinze has left," he conceded.
"But other than that, we are OK."
