Mormeck edges Ibragimov in Paris
Jean Marc Mormeck of France defeated Uzbekistan's Timur Ibragimov on a split decision in a WBA heavyweight bout at the Halle Georges Carpentier in Paris.
Ibragimov, 35, started well enough, the 6'3" slugger using his larger frame to good effect against the 5'11" Mormeck.
But the home favourite began to stamp his authority on the clash by round five, landing uppercuts on several occasions and forcing his opponent onto the ropes.
Ibragimov stood his ground and responded well as Mormeck began to show his 38 years and tiredness set in.
The final rounds saw both boxers tire and fail to deliver a decisive punch, leaving the winner to be decided by the judges.
Juan Manuel Garcia Reyes gave the fight to Ibragimov 115-113, but Erkki Meronen (116-112) and Steve Weisfeld (116-111) handed victory to Mormeck.
