Rochdale have completed the permanent signing of defender Marcus Holness from League One side Oldham following his loan spell at Spotland.Holness originally joined Dale from the Latics in October but the the youngster has now put pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half-year contract at Spotland.

Dale chairman Chris Dunphy told the club's official website: "The signing of Marcus shows our commitment to signing and developing good young players.

"We identified him as the sort of player that can play a very big part in the future of this football club and as a board Of directors we were more than happy to back their judgement."

Meanwhile, Dunphy confirmed an approach for striker Glenn Murray had been made but had been immediately turned down.
