Diouf encouraged by Trotters form

Fri 04 Jan, 10:00 AM

Bolton forward El-Hadji Diouf is convinced the Trotters are on the right track at The Reebok under Gary Megson's stewardship. They face Sheffield United in the FA Cup on Saturday on the back of a victory against fellow strugglers Derby in midweek.

A stoppage-time winner from Stelios Giannakopoulos separated the two sides at the Reebok Stadium.

It was Bolton's fourth successive home victory and propelled them into 14th place in the table.

Senegal striker Diouf is pleased with the way the club is progressing under Megson.

He is preparing to play his last match for the team before departing for the African Nations Cup.

"We are going in right direction," he said at the launch of his charity, the Dioufy Foundation.

"It was a must-win game and we got the result we wanted.

"We have played well in some games and lost. In other matches, we have played average and come away with three points.

"It was a special game against Derby. The opposition were at the bottom of the table and like us they did not want to give anything away.

"It was hard-fought encounter and we know if we are to climb the table and get any kind of success those are the games we have to win.

"I feel it has to be one of the most satisfying victories of the season."

Kevin Davies is suspended for the visit of the Championship side and Megson is tempted to freshen things up.

He said: "I am not going to tell you lies and say the FA Cup is as important as the Premier League.

"Given the position we are in we have got to pick a side with an eye on the amount of football the players have played.

"But we will be putting a team out we expect to do well and hope we progress."
