Hibs look to get back to winning ways

Fri 04 Jan, 05:46 PM

Clayton Donaldson has urged Hibs to keep believing they can return to the early form which saw them touted as possible title challengers. The Edinburgh outfit briefly topped the SPL after a shock victory over Rangers at Ibrox back in October but have managed only one win - against bottom-placed Gretna - from their following 11 fixtures.

That dreadful run means they have now slipped out of the top-six and they desperately need a victory against St Mirren at Love Street to kick-start a badly faltering campaign.

With interim manager Tommy Craig still in charge following the departure of John Collins last month, Hibs need a spark to boost morale.

And Donaldson is confident the same players who went on a nine-game unbeaten run at the start of the season have the ability to get a win to turn things around.

He said: "The players have got to just keep believing and stand up and be counted and not be afraid to make mistakes.

"We need to believe in each other and the staff, and we can get through it.

"The good thing is we've shown we can play good football. We started the season well and it's the same players that are playing now that started the season.

"Every team takes a dip in form and we're taking ours now. The thing is to get that first win as quickly as possible. We've taken a bit longer than normal but hopefully it will come."

Hibs have become renowned in recent seasons for playing a cultured passing and attacking style but standards have slipped of late as they have struggled for the victories they need to propel them back into the race for third spot.

And Donaldson, who admits he is still settling into Scottish football after his summer switch from English Conference outfit York City, confesses any win will now do for the Easter Road men.

He added: "I just think we need to get the three points, it doesn't matter how we get it.

"It would be nice to be like Arsenal and play terrific football and get the three points as well, but I don't think we're going to be too fussy."
