Magilton plays down Connolly talk

Fri 04 Jan, 04:30 PM

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton has distanced himself from media speculation linking the club with a bid for Sunderland striker David Connolly.Newspaper reports suggested the Tractor Boys have made an approach for the Republic of Ireland international striker but Magilton denied the link.

But the Ipswich boss did admit he has made a bid for an un-named target after the club's seven-figure bid for Plymouth midfielder David Norris was rejected.

"It's that time of the year for newspaper stories with the January transfer window opening," Magilton told the club's official website.

"It's just speculation and no more than that - I guess we will be linked with players through the month until we get the players we want in the building.

"We have done everything through the right channels and made what we considered to be a very good bid for the player (David Norris.)

"We will consider what to do next but we do not want to put all our eggs in one basket and have made a bid for another player."
