Pardew hoping to pick up fans

Fri 04 Jan, 05:00 PM

Charlton boss Alan Pardew has challenged his team to "lift the crowd" by beating West Brom in Saturday's FA Cup clash at The Valley.Addicks fans have endured a disappointing festive period, with the latest upset coming in a 2-1 defeat to bottom-of-the-table Colchester on Tuesday, but Pardew is predicting an enthralling encounter against the Baggies.

"Both myself and Tony Mowbray will be desperate that this game isn't a draw," Pardew told the club's official website.

"We have a tough enough programme as it is, so with that in mind, if it's 1-1 at 83 minutes, I think both teams will be going for it - it will make for an exciting contest."

"The New Year and Christmas period hurt our fans in their pockets, never mind some of our performances - certainly the last one was very disappointing, so I think the crowd will be low on Saturday.

"We're still a strong side - on Tuesday we were trying to change the game, we were trying to force things and unlock the door, but we're just missing those magic moments at the minute that can lift the crowd and lift us all."
