MELBOURNE (AFP) - January's Australian Open, which brands itself as the Grand Slam of Asia Pacific, will broadcast live images of the final matches in Shanghai, organisers said Friday.
Shanghai is one of three sites to broadcast images from the year's first grand slam tournament along with Sydney and Melbourne.
Tennis Australia is hoping to attract one million spectators at Century Square shopping mall on Shanghai's Nanjing Road from January 25-27.
"There is just so much interest in our event in Asia, we thought the time was right for such a venture," TA chief executive Steve Wood said in a statement.
As well as Australian Open finals matches on the big screen, the Shanghai entertainment will include live bands, hip-hop dancers and cheering squads, organisers said.
