Scunthorpe have signed West Brom centre back Shelton Martis on loan.

Martis, 25, joins on a month-long deal after only making one league appearance in his five months at the Hawthorns since joining from Hibernian (pictured).

The former Darlington player arrives with the aim of him gaining first team experience in order to compete for a place with the Championship leaders.

The Dutchman becomes their second defensive acquisition of the transfer window, following the arrival of Mamadou Seck, also on loan, from Sheffield United.

West Brom manager Tony Mowbray said: "Opportunities have been hard to come by for Shelton here so far but I particularly like his qualities.

"We need to see him play Championship football. Hopefully, he'll get that opportunity at Scunthorpe and will come back really competing hard for a place in the first team."
