Aston Villa v Manchester United (Saturday 5th January 17:15)

Aston Villa facing Manchester United has become something of an FA Cup third round tradition in recent years, and this season it's a resurgent Villa that face the league champions.

Manager Martin O'Neill could be without big target man John Carew, who is struggling with a knee injury, so the in-form Shaun Maloney could get a rare start ahead of the misfiring Luke Moore.

The ankle injury sustained against Birmingham by Carlos Tevez makes him a major doubt for the match at Villa Park, meaning Wayne Rooney is set to return to the fold.

Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar returns after injury.

Burnley v Arsenal (Sunday 6th January 14:00)

Adi Akinbiyi is pushing for a start up front after scoring the only goal for the Clarets in their last four games, most likely at the expense of Robert Blake.

Jens Lehmann will make a rare start in the Arsenal goal as manager Arsene Wenger continues his policy of rotating his squad for cup matches.

Nicklas Bendtner returns from his one-match suspension for his sending off against Everton to partner in-form Eduardo in attack.

Wenger will make the most of his African internationals before they travel to Ghana for the African Nations Cup while William Gallas, Gael Clichy and Alexander Hleb could be rested.

Luton Town v Liverpool (Sunday 6th January 16:00)

Luton are still without defender Chris Coyne, who is suspended following his red card against Bristol Rovers on Boxing Day, which means that midfielder Keith Keane will continue to fill in for the Australian.

The big news for the 2006 winners is that Steven Gerrard, Alvaro Arbeloa and Fabio Aurelio are all out of the trip to Kenilworth Road.

Sami Hyypia is likely to move in to centre back, with Rafael Benitez unwilling to risk Daniel Agger in a cup match following a lengthy lay-off, while Jon Arne Riise returns at left back.

After playing four straight matches, striker Fernando Torres is likely to be rested, meaning Peter Crouch and Andriy Voronin could start up front together for the first time since the Carling Cup defeat to Chelsea.

Xabi Alonso is set to return to the ground where he scored from his own half in January 2006.

Stoke City v Newcastle United (Sunday 6th January 18:00)

Goalkeeper Russell Hoult returns from suspension, but Steve Simonsen is expected to continue in goal for Stoke.

Top scorer Ricardo Fuller, however, is due for a return to the side.

Michael Owen's half-time introduction against Manchester City means he could start alongside Mark Viduka.

Other highlights of the third round draw include the all-Premier League ties of Tottenham versus Reading and West Ham against Manchester City, as well as top flight hopefuls Charlton and West Brom going head to head.

Chelsea host west London neighbours QPR, while Cardiff travel to the lowliest club ever to make it to the third round, Chasetown.
