Wayne Bridge has completed his £10 million move from Chelsea to Manchester City after signing a four-and-a-half-year contract at Eastlands.
The clubs agreed terms for the 28-year-old before Bridge put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract a day later to become City's first signing of the January transfer window.
"I played alongside him at Southampton and I saw him come through the ranks. He was an outstanding young player and he's progressed year on year in his career," manager Mark Hughes told City's website.
"He's a successful player. He's an England international and has just played for one of the top four sides in the country.
"He's of the right quality and he's the type of player we need to attract. We need good players that understand this league and we'll look to carry on in that way and add more if we can."
Bridge, who has 32 England caps, joined Chelsea from Southampton for £7m in 2003 but struggled to hold down a regular first-team place after the arrival of Ashley Cole from Arsenal in 2006.

bridge is a really good signing and everyone who knows about football knows it,
lol bridge would be good for city
still, bridge is a good signing since they need a good holder and runner at the back..city needs to do something with their defence..
Glen T "yeah the top four are shaking now lol"
The fans of the top4 are having a ball watching City languish in the bottom half of the table. The top4 club executives are probibly not laughing quite as much. City were winning trophies whe United were having to climb back out of the old second division (that City sent there). Enjoy today.
luffy..
It sounds a bit wierd but the reality is that City's academy grown talent (SWP, Ireland, Richards, Onuoha, Johnson and Sturridge) are better quality than the bought in youngsters that Arsenal are so proud of.
Nath...where the heck have you been for the first half of the season. City do not need to make more money to spend more...
i thing city better go buy younger player from arsenal cause most of they younger player still dont not be in they 1st squad...so they ar cheap...n remember when u talk about arsenal u talk about bisness....hoho

Why Are Manchester City wasting there money , They should not forget that they need to earn more money if you spend more.
glenn t, obviously a salford utd fan,man city a joke club???? you know nothing about football,in fact quoting you zilch.whether you like it or not man city fans are great football fans,we can even have a laugh about it,cos its what comes with supporting city, but will always be the best club to support, and we are gonna win trophies very soon.lol

Even if they buy you a couple of trophies you will still be a joke club infact you will be more of a joke . No one takes you serious no one ever has . Your clubs success if it ever comes wont have anything to do with the fans so after years of loyal suffering it meant zilch .
yeah the top four are shaking now lol
People who say what a waste of money let me remind you: Signing robben, duff, kezman, crespo, sheva, ballack, that is a waste of money but in the end there still stood wayne bridge. One of the most consistent players in the epl whether he starts or not. Great Signing City.
Bridgey has been an excellent servant to chelsea. I agree with a lot of others, he is the better player going forward (than greedy tweedy), therefore you would thnk LFS would wanna keep him as he likes the attacking full-back....anyway, he's off to city and i would like to say thank you very much for being a dedicated and loyal player for chelsea and good luck at city....who knows, maybe Capello will make him No.1 choice left-back soon. Come on the Chels and happy new year to all
If the owners are still there in two years I will be amazed . But it will be funny while it lasts if they are really if they are even slightly serious they would be building city there own stadium if they are full of it they wont bother .
As a Chelsea fan this is not a good move, though I do fully understand why Wayne wants to move. He has been a fantastically loyal player, waiting for Cole the petulant child to fall out of favour. I think Bridge is the better player all round. He can make the same attacking runs that Cole is supposedly good for. I hate to see him go but really wish him all the best on stealing Coles England spot.
This is just chelsea all over again, city will buy a couple of titles"maybe"then sack their manager, btw huges wont be there next seasont they will have a foriegn manager next season ,then after a few trophies the big names will go one by one to biger clubs. man city have money but that doesnt make you a big club, just a rich one.theres not enough oil in the world to buy the succsess man u and liverpool have experienced, class always wins through,if man city keep throwing money around they will become a joke.and its been done before theres no fear factor these days, chelsea were the last team to win on the back of hype.now its every team for himself.even the lower teams like hull are taking points
Listen people, we should be happy that someone else finally has the money to compete with these other clubs in terms of buying players and etc. I am tired of seeing the same four year after year and I guarantee you guys in the next couple of years, the big four will completely change cuz other teams like everton, villa, and rich teams like city will be competing four champions league football. Instead of complaining bout city having all the money be glad that someone else will eventually crack the top four. Oh and i love how people are talking about championship football. Craziest thing i have ever heard.
mgekane - Villa? Can I have some of the stuff you've been smoking please?! Lol at your comment about Liverpool's back 4 ... are they showing football from 1996 in your country?
