Wayne Bridge has completed his £10 million move from Chelsea to Manchester City after signing a four-and-a-half-year contract at Eastlands.
The clubs agreed terms for the 28-year-old before Bridge put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract a day later to become City's first signing of the January transfer window.
"I played alongside him at Southampton and I saw him come through the ranks. He was an outstanding young player and he's progressed year on year in his career," manager Mark Hughes told City's website.
"He's a successful player. He's an England international and has just played for one of the top four sides in the country.
"He's of the right quality and he's the type of player we need to attract. We need good players that understand this league and we'll look to carry on in that way and add more if we can."
Bridge, who has 32 England caps, joined Chelsea from Southampton for £7m in 2003 but struggled to hold down a regular first-team place after the arrival of Ashley Cole from Arsenal in 2006.

City are going to have the most expensive Championship squad ever ... well funny!
all i can say is look at shauny wright when he came back to us and bridge will do the same hes a top player all u city haters no the times r chANGIN if not now soon jus wait n see ......
bridge and santa cruz will be very good signings by city as they will help get them in to the top 8 this season, as i think anything above that is being a bit over the top, now!! if they got in "say" shay given and a couple more.. mmm anyways YNWA
i think city should start with young players like arsenal they are spending millions look at chelsea spent a fortune on shevchenko didnt even bag 10 goals and he is a striker even joleon lescott got more goals then him lol
Mgekane, last time i heard that much @#$% being spoken i'd done3 acid tabs and was at an african poetry gig
102...Alan, it is no more British, 'we england', GROW UP, man
stuart m, i think that Evra is a better left back than both Cole and Bridge.
I think he is a good buy for City and a lot younger than most of the Chelsea Team now. They would regret leaving him go in the long run. A credit to the game.
Tako je Zorane!!!
Listen People, of course players go where the money is. You really think they go there for the love of football. Man City have the money and they dont care how much they spend. Stop hating on City just cuz they have the money.
101 cynthadel.. get off your political wagon and listen to Jack. Hes saying a few more young home grown players and clubs wont be depleted by by having to release players for foreign comps and be cup tied if they want to move for more money. Greed.. Also there might be just a slight chance we as an England team will qualify easier for world and european comps and not the 'sherpa van tailpipe bracket cup' standard we are at present! Quality and talent has everything to do with where you come from if you want to see a successful England and City team.
90...Jack, or what do you call yourself. What has quality or talent got to do with colour or continent. People like you should have existed in 15th century. African players/South American players all these nationalities makes premiership the best League in the world not because been English. If you have British, you will claim he is Scot. When are you going to Grow up.
Bridge would walk into the left back position at any premier league club except chelsea cos they already have the other best left back in the league already.... city will offer a first team guarantee as he is always first team easily.
They can also offer good money for cudicini if they want another talent wasting away on the bench.
If this was Cole to City then I would really be complaining - over-priced, over-sexed, over-inflated ego. But Bridge? Good player, good character - and a first-choice full-back anywhere else but Chelsea. He'll come on a treat at City, just like SWP.
Is MGEKANE on drugs? Aston Villa have 2 chances of winning the league, slim and none and Slim's outa town.
Bridge may prove to be the shrewdest signing in this window, he's an accomplished international who many at CFC believe is batter than Ashley Cole. He's no primma donna and does his job quietly but with great effect. I wish he was staying at CFC but £12m is good business for the player and both clubs. Alex & the returning Mancienne are good cover for Terry & Carvallho, and in Ivanovic we probably have the best up and coming left wing back in the country.
i think this is a very good buy for Man City, 12 mill maybe be a touch over priced but if that means you get your man, so be it. Bridge will be a sucess and he will finally be away from the scraps he gets thrown from the chelsea table, and proving he is up there asa quality left back. You'll see.
£12m for Wayne Bridge is a steal, thanks Chelsea.
didnt Bridge turn Sven down ?just coming for the money
were not gonna win anything for a few years anyway so we might as well get an up and coming left back or keep who weve got and put twelve million into academy
