Premier League - Rangers: No Ferguson approach

Eurosport - Sun, 04 Jan 17:13:00 2009

Rangers manager Walter Smith has insisted that no approach has been received for skipper Barry Ferguson despite Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear publicly declaring his interest.

Kinnear claimed Newcastle had made an inquiry about the Scotland midfielder but Rangers have denied the claim.

The Magpies have also been linked with Madjid Bougherra and Allan McGregor, but Smith maintains only Alan Gow has attracted firm interest during the transfer window.

Gow is discussing a move to Wolves after Rangers accepted a bid for the former Falkirk forward.

"You always get that at this time of the year. Players, managers, everyone has to handle that, Smith told BBC Radio Scotland.

"We are speculating on speculation, that's how bad it gets at times.

"We have had one offer from Wolverhampton for Alan Gow and that's the only contact we have had from anybody so far."

  7. mark.simmen the name Goerdie originated during the Jacobite rebellion around 1745, it is thought to be because people in the NE supported the Hanoverian king George ii, originaly the term described anyone from the NE of England, much to our relief it now only describes the uneducated slum dwellers in the immediate Newcastle region.
