Mon 04 Feb, 11:15 AM

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has revealed that Afonso Alves will queue up at the British Embassy in Amsterdam to obtain his visa.Alves, who joined from Heerenveen last week, missed Sunday's 1-1 draw at Newcastle as he is waiting for his paperwork to be completed before he can return to Teesside.

The manager said: "The situation is that he had to go online to try to get an appointment at the British Embassy in Amsterdam, and their computers were down on Friday, so he has just got to queue up with everybody else now.

"We hope we will have him in the country by Tuesday or Wednesday."

Southgate said before last Friday's delay: "We're now just waiting for him to get a visa so he can get back into the country.

"He's got international clearance, he's registered, he's our player and it's purely now about the fact that anybody coming to work in this country needs a working visa."
