Griffin thrilled to skipper Stoke

Stoke defender Andy Griffin spoke of his delight after the Potters got off to a winning start under his captaincy at the weekend.The 28-year-old defender was handed the captain's armband after previous skipper John Eustace left for Watford on transfer deadline day.

The Potters earned a 2-1 win over promotion rivals Cardiff at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, returning to winning ways following their first defeat in 13 league games against Charlton.

"To get the captaincy is quite special because I've never been one before," he told the Stoke Sentinel.

"It's a proud moment in my career. The manager mentioned it to me on Friday and I was obviously delighted and honoured.

"There's that added responsibility I will relish."
