Stern John has backed caretaker managers John Gorman and Jason Dodd to land permanent roles on the Southampton coaching staff.Ex-Wycombe and Swindon boss Gorman - who was working as Southampton's chief scout - and former Saints defender Dodd are in temporary charge following George Burley's appointment as Scotland coach.
Micky Adams, Steve Cotterill, Glenn Hoddle and Chris Coleman are among the names linked with the job but striker John insists Gorman and Dodd deserve the chance to prove themselves.
"I'm just a player so I don't know what the situation is with appointing a new manager, but I do know John Gorman and Jason Dodd have done a fantastic job," said John.
"They have done really well and the lads are fighting for them. They have continued where George left off, and had a bit of input themselves, and the reaction from the players has been wonderful.
"As long as results keep going for us they have a great chance to continue to the end of the season. They deserve a chance. What they have done for Southampton has been fantastic and I would love to see them here."
