Republic of Ireland caretaker manager Don Givens is hoping Bolton's Andy O'Brien will reconsider his decision to quit international football.O'Brien, 28, was named in the original squad for Wednesday's friendly with Brazil at Croke Park but did not turn up for training on Monday so Givens called up Ipswich's Alex Bruce in his place.
Givens, chairman of the selection process to find a successor to Steve Staunton as manager, has yet to be notified of O'Brien's decision personally.
"I haven't been able to make any contact with Andy O'Brien, so I've called in Alex Bruce," confirmed Givens.
Blackburn's Steven Reid is an injury doubt after missing training sessions yesterday and today with a knee problem.
But Tottenham striker Robbie Keane came through the work-out after an ankle niggle prevented his participation on Sunday.
"Steven Reid sat out today's (session) because he has an injury problem, which is a bit more than we thought," Givens told FAI's website. "Robbie's injury has cleared up and he'll be fine."
The Football Association of Ireland hope to rubber-stamp a new manager in the aftermath of the Brazil fixture with Italian veteran Giovanni Trapattoni favourite for the post.
Givens met with the FAI board on Sunday night, and a statement read: "He gave the 10 board members a progress report on the work done by himself and the other members of the selection panel, Ray Houghton and Don Howe, since he last spoke to the board.
"He indicated the panel's work will be completed within 10 days and that an appointment is imminent.
"The board expressed their satisfaction with the progress report."
Trapattoni, currently in charge of Austrian club Salzburg, has also coached Italy, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Benfica.
