League Two strugglers Bury have appointed former Shakers player Alan Knill as their new manager.Knill, who leaves his post as assistant manager at Chesterfield, was a mainstay of the Shakers defence from 1989 to 1993, making 159 appearances and scoring 10 goals.

He replaces Chris Brass, who was placed in temporary charge at Gigg Lane following the dismissal of Chris Casper in January.
