Championship - Forest owner Doughty dies aged 54
Nottingham Forest owner Nigel Doughty has died at the age of just 54.
A short statement on the club's official website read: "It is with enormous sadness that Nottingham Forest announce the death of the club's owner Nigel Doughty.
"Mr Doughty, who was 54, was found dead earlier today in his gym at his home in Skillington, Lincolnshire.
"The club would like to appeal for the privacy of Mr Doughty's family to be observed at this sad time.
"The club will be making no further comment."
Doughty was born in Newark, Nottinghamshire and made his money as the co-chairman and co-founder of Doughty Hanson & Co, a European private equity firm based in London and with offices throughout Europe.
Doughty stepped down as chairman of the club late last year after taking personal responsibility for the appointment of Steve McClaren which ended after just 10 league games. He had been chairman for 10 years.
The life-long Forest fan saved the Reds from administration when he bought the club for £11 million in 1999 and invested almost £100 million of his personal fortune in the club.
Forest currently find themselves in the Championship relegation zone.
Doughty's son Michael is on the books with QPR and is a U19 Welsh international.

What a sad loss not only to his family, but to football in general where would our game be with out the likes of Mr Nigel Doughty who are willing to invest millions of pounds of their own money into the club he had supported all his life.
To those sick minded few ,get a life and as far away from football as possible.
From a Villa fan of 70 years .
R.I.P. Mr Doughty.
I am not a what you call proper football fan but I have loosly followed forest for many years.
I would just like to comment on the people who find it appropriate to make negative and hurtful remarks at such a
sad time for the family of the deceased.
grow up you sad people ,football is just a game ,someones life is so much more precious. show some respect
Whatever anybody thought of him, including Forest fans who didn't like him, you can't take away the fact he was a true supporter who had the opportunity to do something for the club and invested more money than we will all have together. Yes he made mistakes but he was earned the right to by investing so heavily. If he hadn't been in the directors box he would have been in the stands with rest of the fans and we should respect that. I hope his family are able to come to terms with their loss and can look back with pride at what he tried to achieve.
A note to all you attention seekers,
if you have never heard of Nigel and and cannot show respect to his family and this once great club at this sad time, keep off the Forest page and keep your pathetic thoughts to your self and as for asking "who" just think he'd never heard of you either but at least he did some good with his life, whilst you prob sit on your backsides and do nothing
Who??
With deepest sympathies to Nigels Family and to Nottingham Forest Football club, with it's very loyal supporters. Swansea City supporter
