Hosts Canada dominated on the podiums at the World Cup ski cross event at Blue Mountain, Ontario.

2012 FREESTYLE SKIING Canadian medallists (L-R) Chris Del Bosco, second in the mens race, women's winner Marielle Thompson and men's winner Brady Leman celebrate - 0

For the women, 19-year-old Marielle Thompson claimed a first victory of her career while in the men's section Brady Leman took the honours with Chris Del Bosco coming in second.

Thompson showed her potential throughout the two-day event, qualifying second before winning all her heats on the way to the final.

There, she saw off Austria's Ofner and Katrins Mueller of Switzerland to grab the win.

“It's pretty awesome,” said Thompson. "When I was going into that last jump I heard everyone cheering and it was just like, 'Oh my gosh. I'm going to win!'

"It's really exciting. Winning in on Canadian soil...it's going to be really memorable.

“I'm going to try and build on this for the rest of the season.”

In the men's race, Leman was given a fairly straightforward ride to victory while veteran Del Bosco, the defending World Champion and X-Games gold medallist, had to battle for second with Austrian Andreas Matt.

Having been overtaken on the last turn, Matt came in third with Armin Niederer of Switzerland in fourth.

"I was trying to stay off Brady up top, and I didn't know what side to take because I didn't want to take him out or take myself out," said Del Bosco.

"And when you're kind of chilling like that you leave it open for whoever's in third, and Andy (Matt) kind of snuck in there.

"But I stayed patient and I knew that on that last turn there was room inside. I came in pretty good, I nailed the turn before, and he looked like he was going to set up a little wider.

"But right as I came in he merged to the gate and we made a little bit of contact. But he stayed up, I stayed up, and it wasn't a fault."
