2012 ATP Montpellier Gael Monfils - 0

Monfils, the third seed, got the better of world number 12 and second seed Simon in a match that lasted two hours and 25 minutes.

It was a great comeback from Monfils who had to save a match point in the second set.

Simon also missed a total of eight break point opportunities in the second set.

It was the third career meeting between the players and the first one that Monfils has won.

Monfils will take on top seed Tomas Berdych in the final after a 6-3 6-4 victory over seventh seed Philipp Kohlschreiber.

A solitary break in both sets proved decisive for the Czech as he completed victory in 82 minutes.

  1. "I just love watching Simon play", said Matt Cronin recently on AO Radio and it's hard to disagree with him. The guy always gives value for money, or in my case today, value for time taken from other persuits. Great performance by both players and Monfils is great to watch. Amazing the power he generated at times today.

  2. Well done Monfils! You look happy with your tennis, celebrating with abandon when things go your way. And not showing any disrespect to the opponent, which is just as important. Simon, on the other hand, with all his skills as a player, often looks like he is not enjoying his tennis at all, which is a shame and takes away his appeal on court.
