Brightwell: I could have saved Macc

Tue 04 Mar, 03:30 PM

Former Macclesfield manager Ian Brightwell insists he would have saved the club from League Two relegation had he not been shown the door.Brightwell was axed towards the end of last month with the Silkmen perilously positioned just above the League Two relegation zone.

After Brightwell and assistant Asa Hartford left Moss Rose, Keith Alexander was appointed and given the task of preserving the club's Football League status.

Brightwell said: "I've been in the game long enough to know it's a result driven business and that our league position wasn't what it needed to be.

"So given that and the fact there was just twelve games of the season left then you can understand why the board decided to make the change when they did.

"I still remain confident that we would have got away from the bottom two and I still think that now."
