Arsenal scored twice in the last ten minutes as they beat AC Milan 2-0 in the San Siro to clinch a spot in the Champions League last eight.Arsenal needed an away goal after drawing 0-0 in the first leg two weeks ago but it looked as though the tie was heading to extra-time after they squandered a number of chances.
However Cesc Fabregas scored with a speculative 30-yard effort six minutes from time and Emmanuel Adebayor added a stoppage-time second as the Gunners became the first ever English side to beat Milan at the San Siro.
Arsene Wenger opted to deploy Adebayor as a lone striker but it was evident from the outset that they wanted to attack the Italians, with Alexander Hleb crashing a drive just over in the seventh minute.
It needed a goal-line clearance from Fabregas to keep out Paulo Maldini's flick header soon after but Arsenal continued to look dangerous and again went close in the 13th minute through Abou Diaby's 20-yard effort.
Pato, Filippo Inzaghi and Kaka had chances for Milan but Adebayor forced Zeljko Kalac into a good save in the 27th minute before the Gunners saw a decent penalty appeal turned down following Alessandro Nesta's trip on Hleb.
Fabregas went closest to breaking the deadlock before the interval with a swerving 18-yard effort that struck the crossbar but despite dominating the half, Wenger's side went into the break still level.
Philippe Senderos and Emmanuel Eboue missed further chances for Arsenal at the start of the second half but Manuel Almunia had to be alert to turn away Andrea Pirlo's 25-yard free-kick soon after.
Kaka also drilled a shot just wide for Milan just before the hour mark but the visitors continued to search for a goal and they were finally rewarded six minutes from time.
Fabregas picked up the ball in a seemingly harmless position 40 yards from goal but the young Spaniard knocked the ball inside two players before firing a speculative 30-yard effort into the bottom corner that Zeljko Kalac should have done better with.
And Adebayor tapped in a cross from substitute Theo Walcott in injury time to send the Gunners' travelling support into raptures.
