Tykes take point from Seasiders trip

Tue 04 Mar, 11:00 PM

Jamal Campbell-Ryce's strike in first-half injury-time effort secured struggling Barnsley a valuable 1-1 draw at Blackpool in the Championship. The hosts were on top for most of the first half, with Gary Taylor-Fletcher threatening several times. The Seasiders forward found the net in the 20th minute when he headed home - and his side looked set to extend their lead as they dominated.

But the visitors pulled level with the half drawing to a close, as Campbell-Ryce slotted home. Neither side managed to produce any major chances in the second half leaving Barnsley seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Blackpool boss Simon Grayson named an unchanged starting line-up for a team looking for a third successive victory. With Barnsley searching for only a second away win of the season, manager Simon Davey rang the changes - recalling defender Dennis Souza, midfielder Sam Togwell and striker Kayode Odejayi to his starting line-up.

Blackpool threatened in the opening stages, Andrew Morrell firing an effort on target - but Tykes stopper Luke Steele was equal to the effort.

Barnsley midfielder Brian Howard then tried to get a strike on goal, but Stephen Crainey managed to get the block in.

Howard turned provider as his free-kick was met by Souza, who headed wide of the target.

Souza quickly made amends for his miss as he dealt with Wesley Hoolahan's cross, before blocking Taylor-Fletcher's powerful effort from range.

But Taylor was on target in the 20th minute as he headed home his sixth goal of the season from Crainey's perfectly placed cross.

The Seasiders striker continued to threaten, heading wide and then having an effort blocked by Togwell shortly before the half-hour.

Efforts from Stephen McPhee and Taylor-Fletcher were blocked, before Bobby Hassell attempted to test Blackpool goalkeeper Paul Rachubka for the first time. Instead, his effort sailed wide.

The visitors got their equaliser in the first minute of injury-time when Campbell-Ryce latched on to Odejayi's pass to score his second goal of the season.

Morrell looked to restore the hosts lead shortly after half-time but Steele saved well before the Seasiders frontman fired wide from inside the area.

Taylor-Fletcher then shot wide from the edge of the area with neither side managing to carve out any clear-cut chances.

With 15 minutes remaining Grayson made a double substitution bringing Michael Flynn and Ben Burgess into the action.

It almost proved an inspired change as Hoolahan's cross was met by Burgess - but the frontman failed to keep his header down.

Blackpool midfielder Keith Southern then forced Steele into making a save before Rachubka denied Howard's effort from range.

Howard tried again to find a late winner but Ian Evatt managed to get the block in leaving the Tykes without an away league victory since September.
