Chester owner Stephen Vaughan is scouring the north west for a new manager after sacking Bobby Williamson after nine months at the helm.Former Hibs and Plymouth boss Williamson was discarded following a dismal run of results, culminating in Saturday's 1-0 defeat by MK Dons.
Vaughan insisted the decision was not taken lightly, but feared City would be dragged into the relegation zone had he not swung the axe.
"It was inevitable. We were running out of games and the club had to act. I've tried my best to let it work for him but it just wasn't to be," he told the Chronicle.
"We've had to make the change and give someone else the opportunity to keep us in the division. I'm looking for a local man now and somebody who's just got to do what is required at this football club - and that is win matches."
Gary Peters, who parted company with Shrewsbury on the same day, has been linked with the role along with Ken McKenna, the manager of Welsh Premier League outfit TNS.
