Colchester have been boosted by news that captain Karl Duguid did not suffer a broken foot during Saturday's defeat by Wolves.
Long-serving midfielder Duguid hobbled out of the action at Layer Road following a heavy tackle by Wolves' Michael Gray, raising fears he could face a long spell on the sidelines.
But a scan on Monday has revealed no fracture and the Us are hopeful Duguid will be back to full fitness soon.
"There is no fracture in Karl's foot, it's all soft tissue damage which means a shorter recovery time," said club physio Tony Flynn.
"At this point it's hard to put a timescale on his recovery but certainly it is looking a lot better than it did on Sunday.
"He is making good progress and we will have a better idea soon of the likely recovery time."
