Mark Schwarzer cannot wait to face former team-mate Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink when Middlesbrough face Cardiff in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Hasselbaink returns to his former stomping ground at The Riverside as his new club take on Boro in the quarter-finals.

The Dutchman had a tremendous two-year spell on Teesside, scoring 34 goals before leaving in 2006, and Schwarzer is sure he will get a tremendous reception.

"It will be a great homecoming for him," said the Boro keeper. "He was a tremendous player for us, and will be a dangerman.

"He has banged in goals wherever he has been and he has a tremendous shot on him, so we know we are going to have to be on our toes.

"It will be a difficult game but we are playing at home, so we have to believe that we can get through.

"You can't dismiss Championships sides because they are more than capable of holding their own.

"Just look at how many Premier League sides are left in the cup this season.

"The Sheffield United match was extremely tough, but we did well to get through it.

"We will have to show similar resolve and determination against Cardiff."

Schwarzer is hoping Boro can progress as he is looking to add an FA Cup final appearance to his CV.

The Australian was with Boro when they made the final in 1997 - but he was cup-tied and was unable to take his place at the old Wembley in the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Now having featured in two League Cup finals and a UEFA Cup final, Schwarzer is hoping Boro can progress past Cardiff and make it to the final in May.

"It was a massive disappointment to miss that FA Cup final," said Schwarzer. "I was cup-tied when I joined, so I knew what was coming as we progressed to the final, but it was a shame to miss such a big occasion.

"I've played in a League Cup final at Wembley, so I know what it's like to walk out at the ground. But I've never played at the new Wembley and I've never played in the final of the FA Cup. It would be great to achieve both of those things this season."
