Double Olympic champion Petter Northug anchored Norway to Men’s 4x10km relay gold at the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in Oslo, claiming his fourth medal at the games in the process.
Northug, 25, bided his time before sprinting clear of the field in the final kilometre to win by over a second from Olympic champions Sweden in second and Germany in third.
Norway, the defending champions, were led off by Martin Johnsrud Sundby before Eldar Ronning and Tord Asle Gjerdalen handed over to Northug to win in a time of 1:40:10 hours.
So powerful was Northug’s sprint finish that he found time to showboat at the end, sidestepping over the finish line to claim his second gold of the championships after the 30km individual pursuit last weekend.
Sweden’s Marcus Hellner, the world sprint champion, had to settle for silver while Tobias Angerer saw off the Finns to give the Germans bronze.
