PSV Eindhoven could secure their fourth successive Dutch Eredivisie title on Sunday when they welcome Heracles Almelo to the Philips Stadion.The UEFA Cup quarter-finalists hold a five-point advantage over second-placed Ajax heading into the weekend's action.
The Amsterdammers host struggling De Graafschap on Sunday. If PSV win and Ajax fail to pick up three points, outgoing coach Sef Vergoossen will sign off with the league title.
While Ajax's only focus is a win, striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar is also on the hunt for the individual milestone of his 100th Eredivisie goal.
He would also be the second youngest Ajax player to reach a century of goals, second only to Dennis Bergkamp, who was 24 years and 13 days old when achieving that feat in 1992.
At the other end of the table, VVV Venlo find themselves in real trouble after losing 2-1 at bottom club Excelsior. That allowed the basement boys to draw level on points with their visitors, who occupy the second relegation play-off spot.
Excelsior face a tricky trip to fourth-placed FC Twente, while Venlo host an AZ Alkmaar side looking to get the results that could keep coach Louis van Gaal at the club in the summer.
For VVV coach Andre Wetzel, it is just about not finishing in last place.
He said: "Making it into the play-offs is our goal, but it has been for the entire season. I look forward to the upcoming game with concern but also confidence."
Third-placed NAC Breda travel to seventh-placed FC Groningen. The real battle in the Champions League play-off spots is the race for last place, with Heerenveen just ahead of sixth-placed Feyenoord on goal difference.
Heerenveen face a tricky trip to Willem II, who need points to climb out of the first relegation play-off position. Feyenoord have not got it easy either, hosting ninth-placed FC Utrecht.
On Friday night, eighth-placed Roda JC face an NEC Nijmegen side in form, with eight wins in their last 10 matches.
