Tottenham Hotspur have announced that captain Ledley King will not play any further part for them this season.
Centre-back King has only played sporadically since undergoing surgery to his knee last year, making just ten appearances for Spurs all season.
Due to the club currently residing in mid-table with nothing to play for, having already sealed qualification for next season's UEFA Cup through winning the Carling Cup, the decision has been taken to rest the 27-year-old for the rest of the season to allow him time to restore full fitness.
King told the club's official website: "My knee is actually feeling good at the moment and there is no inflammation, but we have to look at the bigger picture and accept that this is an ideal point in time to recover further, get best advice and make sure that I come back fitter.
"They are six games I could well have taken part in, but we all believe this is worth doing for the longer term benefit."
