Harford looks to Hatters future

Sun 04 May, 05:15 PM

Luton saw their disappointing season end on a sour note but manager Mick Harford insisted the club can bounce back from League Two next season. The Hatters suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield to end their stay in League One and Harford aims to bring them back up immediately.

"Over the summer we need to regroup, regenerate the squad, somehow build a new team that can make an assault on League Two next season and try to get promotion at the first attempt," he said.

Phil Jevons proved to be Town's matchwinner and Harford bemoaned the flaws that caused his side to pick up just 33 points all season.

"The game just passed us by," he added. "We had enough of the possession but we seemed to be having the same old problems in the same areas of the pitch. That is sticking the ball in the back of the net, and it's an ongoing situation that I've got to resolve.

"If we had two centre-halves at the club then we'd be half way up the league. It's not that I'm unconcerned with losing, but I think the fans will understand that there is a bigger picture to see here.

"The future of this football club is far more important than losing at home to Huddersfield on the last day of the season."
