Moyes upbeat over Arteta stay

Sun 04 May, 11:45 AM

Everton manager David Moyes insists he is not concerned about the prospect of losing midfield playmaker Mikel Arteta in the summer. The Spanish midfielder has consistently been linked with a return to his homeland following his impressive form for Everton.

Arteta has regularly stated his intention to stay at Goodison Park and Moyes has not fielded any interest in the 26-year-old.

"I haven't had one phone call about Arteta," said the Everton manager in the Sunday Mirror.

"He signed a new five-year deal a few months ago and every indication is he wants to stay."

Disadvantage

The Toffees play Arsenal on Sunday, but will be without Arteta due to an abdominal injury.

Arteta will also miss the final game of the season against Newcastle, but Moyes feels it is an opportunity to display the strength of Everton's squad.

He added: "Not having Mikel for a game like Arsenal is a big disadvantage because he is so talented. But this season we have shown we have strength in depth.

"In our own way we've been building like Arsenal, bringing people through, making them part of a setup that is designed to ensure long-term stability and success."
