Murphy finishes off in fine style

Sun 04 May, 06:00 PM

Caretaker Huddersfield boss Gerry Murphy revealed matchwinner Phil Jevons played due to the illness of James Berrett in the 1-0 win over Luton. With new manager Stan Ternent watching from the stands, Murphy took charge for one last time as the hosts signed off on a high.

Murphy revealed: "James Berrett was sick on the pitch before the game which delayed the start and I think he tired as the game wore on.

"He wasn't feeling the best so we threw Jevons on to try and get us the goal and he did. It may have been an end-of-season game but the lads still wanted to win it. Tactically we won the battle."

Murphy, who will revert to his role as Youth Academy Manager next season, admitted he was pleased with his spell in charge, but insisted he will be happy to take a back seat once Ternent takes over.

"I now go back to my day job to bring a continuous supply and development of boys on the youth set-up to the first team," he added.

"Stan will now come in and he has the experience to bring in the right people who can take the club forward. I wish Stan all the best and I'm going to put my feet up for a while."
