Port Vale boss Lee Sinnott praised his players for battling until the end of the season as they secured a 1-1 draw against Southend.Vale took the lead through David Mulligan's 23rd-minute opener but Southend hauled themselves level as James Walker netted six minutes from time.
"I could not fault the lads for application," said Sinnott.
"When we took the lead it was clear they wanted to win the game and when Southend equalised, they didn't want to lose.
"It's that sort of momentum that will keep us going in League Two. This is only the beginning.
"We will recruit this summer and will look to the example of teams like Doncaster, because it's all about belief."
