Time Will Telle On Mile Bid

Sun 04 May, 04:09 PM

Elletelle goes on a fact-finding mission on Monday when she makes her seasonal debut in the Oratorio EBF Athasi Stakes at the Curragh.

Last year's Queen Mary Stakes winner holds entries in the Boylesports Irish 1000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes, but trainer Ger Lyons has strong reservations about the prospect of her staying a mile.

He is hoping this Group Three contest over seven furlongs will prove a reliable guide.

"She's grand but I don't think she'll get the mile. She's ready to go to war, but we don't want the ground to be worse than yielding," said the Co. Meath-based handler.

"We'll what happens and see if the dream of getting the mile is still alive. After the race we'll see which way we go.

"We decided not to go for the Tetrarch with colts being in it, but looking at the declarations perhaps we should have done. There's only six in the Tetrarch and 11 in the Athasi. Tomorrow is a fact-finding mission."

Elletelle's rivals includes Dermot Weld's Campfire Glow, John Oxx's Sharleez, Prima Luce, trained by Jim Bolger, and British raider Silver Touch from Mick Channon's yard.
