Ricky Hatton was "perfectly all right" after his knockout by Manny Pacquiao, despite being hospitalised after his second-round defeat by the Filipino.
Hatton's father Ray confirmed that his son had been taken in for a check-up as a standard precaution.
"He is perfectly all right," said Ray Hatton. "Actually in the changing rooms afterwards he was perfectly all right. He has not got a mark on him."
The Hitman was comprehensively floored by a devastating left-hook from Pacquiao, leaving him laid flat out on the canvas and apparently on the edge of consciousness in a dramatic early end to the fight.
And although Hatton is fine, he is considering retiring after the evident gulf in class between him and the Filipino, who underlined his credentials as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
"At this moment in time he probably has a few mixed feelings about (retirement)," Ray Hatton added.
"It is only Ricky that can make the decision. He is very strong willed and I don't think he would let anyone make that decision for him.
"I know privately what he will be thinking in a few months time but I would not like to say because I would not want to be putting him under undue pressure."
Hatton's trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr, believes that his charge should hang up his gloves.
"I would suggest he retire," said Mayweather. "At the end of the day it's his decision.
"He tried twice. He failed twice. He lost to my son and to lose to someone below that, it's time to leave the ring."
Mayweather - whose son Floyd Mayweather Jr has just announced that he is coming out of retirement - was critical of Hatton's performance at the MGM Grand.
"He didn't do as he was told," said Mayweather. "He didn't put his hands up. It was an error on his behalf.
"I was telling him in the dressing room before the fight make sure you keep your hands up. Defence is very important. Defence can destroy a fighter."
Despite his trainer's reprimand, Hatton's father was proud of the way his son had handled the fight, referring to it as "typical Ricky Hatton".
"His heart rules his head and he goes in there all guns blazing. The start of the second round he hit Manny Pacquiao with a few good shots and it seemed to worry Manny.
"And then, as what happens with Ricky, the red mist comes down and he goes for it. But this is boxing and this is what makes boxing what it is.
"He is hurting. He said to me 'I have let the fans down'. He feels sorry for the fans first and for himself second."
Meanwhile, Pacquiao's trainer Freddy Roach hoped that Hatton would walk away from the ring rather than make the mistake of going on too long.
"I have Parkinson's Disease," said Roach. "I was told to retire and I fought five more fights without my trainer. I lost four of them so he was probably right.
"I would hate to see anyone end up with anything like Parkinson's.
"Ricky is a multi-time world champion and only a few people can say that. It is something that I have always wanted to be and I'm probably slightly jealous of him. "
"I feel he has nothing to prove. He should retire and enjoy his family. It would be sensible because knockouts like that are not good for you.
"He has achieved greatness, he has money, give me a good reason why he should fight anymore."

Well, well how typically British, he does not win so everyone hammers him, why?........because its not Ricky Hatton who is the loser, its the bitter and twisted chavs who call themselves boxing fans.......yeah i watched you all, walk out the mgm before hatton had even got up at the Mayweather fight, i see you all on here getting your pound of flesh.Hatton did more for British boxing than many, no he wasnt my fav fighter, that would be good ald Joe, but he did alot for boxing and came a long way, i understand the disapointment for the many who travelled to the fight but thats the nature of the fight game. The UK will forever behold the title of crowds with bad sportsmanship.....most of Hattons fans were footy thugs jumping on the band wagon, i heard one guy in a man city shirt say 'least hes minted now' after Hatton lost to Mayweather.....yeah because thats mega important to a boxer at the top level!?, and incase your wondering.....yes he was a fat pr**K!
comeonuirons2005 it is you who should hold your head in shame with a comment like that. You are obviously not a gentleman like Hatton.
ray hatton is to blame for rickys downfall the greedy little @#$% was behind the sacking of billy graham,it was disgusting how he was treated,They parted company with frank warren who choose rickys fights very carefully. so for me its all just carma the hattons have got there just deserts.his father wont want him to retire aslong as he can still make money watch this space.after seeing the battering hatton took any farther would be begging there son to retire. not ray hatton
ricky glass jaw hatton has never won a real title WBC or WBO looser
hatton showed no respects for the fans who went over there never trained for the fight totally outclassed been found out had the front to have a poolside party after that performance should hold his head down in shame disgrace
ricky glass jaw hatton had all but most hand pick'd fights only a couple of fight where real but there where with old granddads who where past there best and the other two you know what happened he got spark's out KO lol
Considering the fact that Ricky Hatton has a record of 47 fights 45 wins and only 2 losses, i think it is unfair to say Hatton is rubbish. Sure he got knocked out in 2 rounds, but that was just one really Bad performance against a real good fighter. Even if you say all of Ricky Hatton's victories were against mediocre or "past their best" fighters, you have to admit that he has beaten so many of these fighters that he (Ricky Hatton) himself cannot be considered to be an average fighter, Ricky is clearly more than just an average or mediocre fighter. So i personally think Ricky Hatton was a good fighter, but not a great fighter. Plus he seems like a nice guy.
I think the reason why Hatton went back to his old brawling ways, was to disrespect Mayweather Sr. himself. Remember, they had a huge conflict before the fight. Appears all the trash talk and coming late for work by his coach, took a toll on Ricky, that he finally said, 'Bowl@#$%, enough of this garbage stuffs for this old black man! I'll start doing what I do best!" And that's what he did. He simply went to his old ways, out of disgust from his trainer.
Listen to the guy a week earlier. He said he has improved and has become more technical. He said he was the 'new' Hatton now. Only a man who has been disgusted by something, would blow his fuse and return back to his old ways come fight time.
mate its time to retire
IS THEIR ANY PROPER BOXING FANS ON HERE?
SOME OF THE COMMENTS HERE ARE A DISGRACE!

HOWEVER RICKY IN MY BOOK IS THE BEST FIGHTER BRITAIN HAS HAD SINCE THE DAYS OF BENN, EUBANK, AND COLLINS.
Ricky should have stayed with Billy Graham instead of casting him off like a pair of dirty socks after all , I'm sure that the old Hatton would have done a better job than the 'new' one.. Sorry but in my book loyalty means a lot and to be fair to Billy he deserved better and Hatton like so many others before him thought the grass was greener on the other side ,how wrong can you be? I'm not knocking Ricky 'cos he was one of the most exciting fighters to come out of England since Nigel Benn. Admittedly he's defence has always been suspect but he has the heart of a lion ..HANG EM UP NOW MATE......you've made your money ENJOY IT....Good luck Ricky....
sorry but i cant agree with a lot of you slagging ricky off. ricky was never going to be pound 4 pound. i will say he probably had a better chance vs mayweather than pac man.
what is true is that after the mayweather fight, and the 1st round vs pac, surely something has to say to you, KEEP YOUR HANDS UP, and not steam in like a blind man. ricky im sorry mate but you only have yourself to blame for this one. the writing was on the wall and you should have been smart enough to know you needed a defence vs pac. i stayed up to watch both fights, vs mayweather i was dissapointed, vs pac i was disgusted. a total waste of time and money. not because you lost because although i wanted in my heart you to pull it off, i didnt think you would. but after your first chance vs mayweather and all the talk about new coach, head movement, jab, defense etc, to go in their and fight the fight you did was total and utter stupidity. im so glad your ok ecause that KO was scary. watch the video ric of your girlfriends face when you were on the floor. you've been a good fighter ric, made money, and are loved by many. dont put us or yourself through that again. TIME TO HANG EM UP MY BROTHER.
Ricky Hatton clearly showed to tourists that the best place to sleep in Las Vegas, is right there at the MGM Grand. lol
Hatton has to thank Pacquiao for choosing Batista to join his entourage, instead of The Undertaker. Otherwise, it would have been a much uglier scene at the end while he was lying there. lol
ricky fat fat fat chinny glass jaw
