Bristol City manager Gary Johnson is confident that veteran midfielder Scott Murray will sign a new contract at Ashton Gate.Johnson admits that there is interest in the veteran winger from elsewhere, but expects the 34-year-old to stay put.

Swindon are one of the clubs to publicly announce their interest in Murray, and City's manager admits that there are three sides in the frame.

However, barring a brief spell at Reading in 2003/04, Murray has spent the best part of 11 years with City and Johnson is convinced that he will remain loyal to the club.

He told the Robins' official website: "We feel Scott would like to stay with us and I know he's spoken to the chairman.

"Scott can challenge for a place next season and if at some stage he's not in the team then there is always the option of a loan deal."

Club chairman Steve Lansdown held talks with Murray on Tuesday and was pleased with the outcome of their meeting.

He said: "It was all very positive. We'd like Scott to stay at the club and we've given him the contract offer now. We await his response."
