MANCHESTER (AFP) - Mark Hughes is close to taking charge at Manchester City after Blackburn agreed a compensation package for the Rovers manager on Tuesday.
City moved for Hughes after sacking Sven Goran Eriksson on Monday and Blackburn reluctantly agreed to discuss compensation when the Welshman made it clear he wanted to speak to the Eastlands club.
Now that package has been agreed, with some reports suggesting it could cost City up to five million pounds to get their man, Hughes will speak to representatives of City's Thai owner Thaksin Shinawatra.
Hughes has also been linked with Chelsea but the London club appeared to have turned their attention to AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti, giving City a free run at the Rovers boss.
"Blackburn Rovers can confirm that they have reached an agreement with Manchester City on compensation terms for Mark Hughes. As a consequence the club have given Manchester City permission to speak to Mark," a statement on Blackburn's website confirmed.
