Magpies chairman John Armstrong-Holmes has confirmed Munto Finance Ltd is on the verge of a multi-million pound deal to assume control of the world's oldest professional club and expects them to seal the deal "within a few weeks".

The consortium is headed by former Everton commercial director Peter Trembling and Middle East-based Peter Willett, client representative of the Al Thani Investment Group.

Following an emergency board meeting on Tuesday evening, Armstrong-Holmes revealed steps have already been taken to ensure a smooth takeover process.

"At a specially convened club board meeting held on Tuesday evening, the club board discussed the proposal from Munto which was accompanied by proof of funds and unanimously agreed to recommend its acceptance to all shareholders," Armstrong-Holmes told the club's official website.

"Two of the Munto group, Peter Trembling and Peter Willett, were appointed to the club board with immediate effect to assist in the process. Munto is eager to complete the deal as early as possible to plan for next season and, subject to shareholders agreeing to it, the takeover could be completed within a few weeks."

  1. Being a life long supporter of Notts I am hoping and praying this takeover goes through, but with the hope that the club does not loose site of what makes it a great club. I would love to see us back in the top flight of football but would hate to see a time when we bought success rather than nurtured success, something Ian McParland has been trying to do over the last 2 seasons Being a responsible, family orientated, community minded football club does not have to be sacrifced for success. I urge all shareholders to accept this takeover, then I urge the board not to forget the fans. We have a proud history at Notts of fair play and bring on good players lets keep this and lets make Notts the number one club in the East Midlands.

  2. I am a life long Forest supporter, but I would love to see Notts up there with us in the Championship. And who knows, maybe in the Premiership again. With the right backing, managers and good players playing attractive football, there is no reason why not. Good luck.
