Whites ace keen to make amends

Fri 04 Jul, 04:45 PM

Leeds midfielder Andrew Hughes feels United's players "let down" manager Gary McAllister with their dismal play-off final display. The Whites were outplayed by Doncaster in front of an estimated 40,000 United fans at Wembley and must start all over again in League One - albeit without a 15-point penalty - when the new season kicks off.

Hughes said: "I'd like to think the team will be more or less the gaffer's next season, but to be fair there were lots of changes when he came in.

"The manager got us to the play-off final, it was a great achievement, but we let him down. We performed dreadfully and it still sticks with me how badly we played.

"But it's a fresh start. There will be more new faces and if you consider where we finished with a 15-point deduction last season, we're still very confident of getting promoted next time."
