Colchester manager Geraint Williams hopes to have eradicated the defensive problem that plagued the Us last season.With defenders Paul Reid, Matthew Heath and Matthew Lockwood all signing deals at Layer Road, Williams believes his side will come back stronger in the new season.

"Anyone who watched us play last year will know that's where our problem lay, so it was where we had to look to first in terms of bringing players in," Williams told the club's official website.

"That doesn't mean that we are finished in the transfer market though.

"A number of players have left in a number of positions and we will be looking to strengthen all over, but it was important to sort the back line first."
