After shining at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Race last month, where he teamed with Christian Klien and Ricardo Zonta to deliver a third-place finish for the Peugeot team, former Renault and Toyota test driver Franck Montagny will now continue his racing career in the United States.
The Frenchman, who also drove seven races for Super Aguri in 2006, has signed a deal with Andretti Green Racing which will see him contest the final seven races of the American Le Mans Series at the wheel of a prototype Acura, starting with the next round at Lime Rock on July 12th. His teammate will be promising young driver Marco Andretti, son of former McLaren driver Michael Andretti and grandson of 1978 World Champion Mario Andretti.
"We're looking forward to seeing what Franck can do in the Acura," said team principal Michael Andretti. "He's got a lot of experience in different types of cars, including prototypes, and that should help him adjust pretty quickly to what we're doing here."
"I know how competitive the American Le Mans Series is and know how challenging this will be, but I believe I am ready for it," Montagny added. "I am eager to get started."
Andretti Green Racing also intends to have Montagny test an IndyCar open-wheeler on an oval track, after his ChampCar performance at Long Beach this year provoked much interest on the American scene.
