Newly re-signed Red Bull Racing ace Mark Webber tells his employers he is talented enough to win in F1 - then asks them for the car to enable him to prove it.

After re-signing to remain with Red Bull Racing in Formula 1 in 2009 [see separate story - click here], Mark Webber has insisted that he is capable of winning grands prix - should he only have the car to allow him to do so.

The plain-speaking Aussie has been dogged by bad luck throughout his seven-year career in the top flight, regularly being in the wrong place at the wrong time and finding himself on the receiving end of some appalling mechanical unreliability.

That luck, though, seems to have finally turned this year, with six points-scoring finishes from the opening eight races of the campaign, leaving the 31-year-old sitting joint seventh in the championship standings - or 'best-of-the-rest' behind the drivers from the established top three teams.

He warned his current employers, however, that if an offer to drive a better car came along in the future, he would not hesitate in switching camps.

"I know I have the talent to win grands prix," the man from New South Wales told Dutch sports daily AD Sportwereld Pro, "but I've only had a couple of chances to battle for the podium.

"In order to win a title you have to have a car that is fast on every circuit you go to. I've never been in that position, not even with Red Bull.

"When I smell the chance to fight for the title with Red Bull, I will certainly grab it - but if there is a better opportunity somewhere else, then it will be the time to leave."
