Serena and Venus reach Wimbledon doubles final

LONDON (AFP) - Serena and Venus Williams warmed up for their Wimbledon singles final by teaming up to reach the doubles title match as well on Friday.

The Americans, seeded 11, saw off France's Nathalie Dechy and Casey Dellacqua of Australia 6-3, 6-3 and will be chasing their third Wimbledon doubles title to add to their 2002 and 2003 wins.

In Sunday's final they will face America's Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur of Australia, the 16th seeds, who shocked top seeds Cara Black and Liezel Huber 6-3, 6-3.

The Williams sisters have also won the Australian Open doubles title twice as well as one French Open.

  13. I really fail to understand the undertone in MOJO's comment. Its pretty simple... Talent + Hardwork + A lil luck = Success !! Where does appearance feature in this equation. By the way, I totally agree that his comments should have been censored. It is derogatory to comment about people this way especially when they have done nothing wrong. I guess MOJO is jealous he cannot even dream let alone attain the heights the Williams Sisters have attained.

    Give honour to whom it is due!! The sisters deserve the honour at this point in time cos they were not presented with the finals on a platter of gold. They worked to get there.

  15. There's only one statement to summraize what the two sisters have achieved, "They deserve it!" Let's just say another sister act will come out in future tennis (eg. Simons, Wilsons, etc.), and will conquer all titles not only in wimbledon but in other tennis tournaments as well, i think there' no problem with it because as i see their performance they must have prepared well even beyond their limits perhaps. Mabuhay kayo Venus and Serena! Whatever the results will be in the finals, you have already the respect of many.

  17. this two ladies have today proven to be the idol of female tennis. i do not agree with mojo/unzwa because beauty is not what determines a winner but how well you contest. this ladies have contested well and thats why they are where they are today.

  18. Is it possible to for the WTA to change the rules so that the Williams sisters can only win limited titles (not more than) in each tournament? I can't imagine them sweeping all the Wimbledom titles. It's no good for women tennis, as Simon says.
