Championship - Cullum stumped by Norwich snub

Eurosport - Fri, 04 Jul 12:14:00 2008

Businessman Peter Cullum has spoken of his surprise over Norwich's reluctance to discuss his £20 million offer to buy the club.

FOOTBALL Carrow Road, Norwich City - 0

The 57-year-old Norfolk-born executive chairman of Towergate Partnership, ranked in the top 40 of Britain's rich list, admitted he made an informal offer in October last year but despite talks breaking down, Cullum has stressed the bid still stands.

Norwich responded by telling the billionaire businessman it will cost £56 million to take over at Carrow Road.

But Cullum said in a statement: "I'm surprised and at a loss as to why the Norwich City board has not accepted my offer to sit down with them next week to progress this matter further.

"My offer of investment was focused on buying new players to give Norwich City a fighting chance of returning to the Premiership.

"This was a potential lifeline for the club coupled with a great opportunity to be a contender for next season. The alternative is the prospect of another season fighting against relegation to League One.

"With the new season just around the corner, it's vitally important we conclude this matter soon for the sake of the manager and fans who deserve better in general."

  1. this is a great topic for debate.will norwich follow ipswich along a path of trying to recapture long buried past glories,or simply stik to their morals and principles and continue to build[slowly] on roeders ideals and not ;sell out; to the highest bidder in a vain attempt to buy success against the likes of flavio briatore and dwarf eccleston who could buy out both cullum[norwich] and marcus evans[ipswich] with the loose change in their pockets

  3. It's simple, does he want to buy the club or simply invest and have a seat on the board? £56 million for one, £20 million for the other. Simple questions, simple answers, where's the problem?
