Championship - Rodgers 'confident' of Smith reunion

Eurosport - Sat, 04 Jul 14:28:00 2009

Reading manager Brendan Rodgers believes Watford striker Tommy Smith would happily join his Royals revolution if the two clubs could agree a fee.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Championship - Watford manager Brendan Rodgers celebrates with match winner Tommy Smith against Norwich City - 0

The Hornets have accepted a £1.8 million bid from Sheffield United for Smith but Rodgers is convinced that the former Sunderland man would like to follow him to the Madejski.

Smith scored 17 goals for him at Vicarage Road last year, and his former boss is bullish about the prospects of a move going through.

"I'm confident that if the clubs can reach a fee then the player will come to us," Rodgers told the Reading Post.

"It's one that I'm hopeful we can tie up soon. It's a situation where he knows how I work and knows how I like to play football.

"Reading is a big club at this level and there are lots of players who would like to come here. We've got a terrific squad as well."
