Reading manager Brendan Rodgers believes Watford striker Tommy Smith would happily join his Royals revolution if the two clubs could agree a fee.
The Hornets have accepted a £1.8 million bid from Sheffield United for Smith but Rodgers is convinced that the former Sunderland man would like to follow him to the Madejski.
Smith scored 17 goals for him at Vicarage Road last year, and his former boss is bullish about the prospects of a move going through.
"I'm confident that if the clubs can reach a fee then the player will come to us," Rodgers told the Reading Post.
"It's one that I'm hopeful we can tie up soon. It's a situation where he knows how I work and knows how I like to play football.
"Reading is a big club at this level and there are lots of players who would like to come here. We've got a terrific squad as well."

phil, take who you need to look good, watford have been in higher league football than reading for ever, took you more than a 100yrs to get to top flight & now you think you belong there!!!! wake up!!
we dont want ginger rogers or his watford rejects, what did they do for watford?
I'm disappointed. Are Watford going to let Loach, Mariappa, DeMerit, Jenkins, McAnuff, Williamson, Watford Town Hall, The Pond, Cassiobury Park as well as our Tommy go. MONEY TALKS! Perhaps I've got bitter - Henderson, Bouazza, Carlisle ALL GAWN!
Good luck Malky - hope you can hang on to the rest of the squad.
Hornets forever.
DAVE F

Oh Brendan, cant you see that some people have an honest streak, (oh sorry... I will explain word honest to you another time) .. if Tom comes to you he will will labeled the same as you ... lieing, pathetic, weak minded..dishonourable... now you would not wish that on anyone .. right ?? If Tom is going ... let him play for an upright manager... please dont try to drag him down to your standards ...
Haha I knew it you see you need Watford players to be a great team.
